Outdated Wiki version
The wiki version is really outdated - it is running 1.4.10, but the latest is 1.5.2 (or 1.4.12 for the 1.4.x series) - alone for security reasons the wiki software should be updated.
But wait, there is more:
A change in PHP 4.4.1 broke handling of extension and <pre> sections, causing garbage data to be inserted in output and saved edits. This version works around the change.
from http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Download. Since this server now runs PHP 4.4.1, this wiki is affected by this, for a demonstration look at the Guild Wars article.
So, can someone please update the software? Preferable to 1.5.2...

I'd hardly call it "really" outdated - it's actually just one version behind, though for some reason the version is showing as 1.4.10 rather than 1.4.11. But that <pre> bug is serious enough to warrant the upgrade, which I'll aim to do over the weekend when I have a bit of free time (currently working 12-14 hour days). As for going to 1.5.x, I really would like to wait until the new series is a bit more mature before making the jump up.

OK, the wiki is updated to 1.4.12, with the cedegawiki-specific patches added. Went a LOT smoother and quicker this time, mainly because I actually had some idea what I was doing. :) I'll look into the 1.5.x series when I get a chance, but I don't really see any rush to make that jump. If anybody has any thoughts on updating to 1.5.x sooner rather than later, please let me know.
- Pacula 07:38, 4 Nov 2005 (EST)
Yeah for update - thanx! :)
Regarding 1.5.x.: I updated one wiki from 1.4.x to 1.5.x and it went with way less hassle then I thought, although you have to run one script on the command line to update the database schema. The obvious changes/benefit from updating to v1.5 are the "view diff" when editing articles and lotsa internal fixes. I haven't seen any problems so far - so cudos to the Wikimedia developers.

Addition:
The <abbr>-tag is broken, as seen on Warlords_Battlecry_II and Guild Wars, you probably need to add it to Parser.php (1.4.x.?) or Sanitizer.php (1.5.x.?).
Also, Pacula, can you please give me an email to notify you about Wiki problems? That would probably better than leaving notes on the main page's discussion page.

Links
The main page, games category and the about page are locked, so I can't edit them (why? :)
I would propose the following changes to them:
- Category:Games do not lin entire sentences, but just the relevant words (HTML style nitpick)
- put a very brief blurb about this wiki on the Main Page and move the rest to the [About]. Link from main page to about.
- move the links to the different categories form the Category:Games to the main page
The idea is that the main page should become the central entry point. Right now you have to click from there to the Games page and then follow wherever you want to go.
As usual, it's harder to describe than to do :) Tels 13:04, 16 Oct 2004 (CEST)

So people won't edit the important pages without our knowledge and acknowledgement.

You'd rather have "click here" where "here" is a link? That's retarded. I used setences as links because they stand out better. "here" isn't descriptive enough. And people don't read text anyway. They scan for things that stand out. Writing inverted Pyramids in Cyberspace (It's an old article, but the points are still valid.)
I'll discuss this with Pacula and we'll see what we'll what we do about it.

- I prefer when neither me nor my ideas are called retarded. No need to be rude :-{
- Your fear is probably ungrounded. Any edits can be watched on the recent changes list, and can be undone (or improved upon).
- And I meant that I prefer:
View all games with playable demos that work in Cedega.
over:
View all games that have playable demos that work in Cedega
The latter, especially how it is used on the games page makes entire sentences (and thus almost the entire top) as link, which I find just ugly and more confusing than linking just the relevant text.
Tels 16:52, 16 Oct 2004 (CEST)
I wasn't being rude. The way people use "click here" to indicate a link is retarded. Not you. That's what I meant and I thought that you wanted to do it like that. Misunderstood, don't kill me.

About bold-markings
I wouldn't use "h3" - rather add a template and use it like this!
You can even use <div style="..."> to make colored boxes (by using "border: dashed 2 px; background: red") that stand out visually. These are great for notes added atop of pages like "This page is not done yet" since you can reuse the template etc.

Games beginning with "A, An, or The"
Shouldn't the games currently showing up under the T's be renamed to drop the "The", or at least put it at the end in proper Dewey Decimal fashion?
Maybe. The sort-order of pages in categories can be influenced on the game page by setting the category link in the respectively format (I forgot how this is done exactly, Wikipedia's help should have info). However:
- There are currently no games starting with "A" or "An"
- There are only three with "The", and one of them would land under "T", anyway.
Tels 20:32, 1 Jan 2005 (CET)
I would look for The Longest Journey under T. But there's also a searchbox on the left. I'll discuss with Pacula when he returns. If we all agree, then it's fine by me.
Omega 23:49, 1 Jan 2005 (CET)
If you were in a record/video store or looking in a library's card catalog, you wouldn't find it under 'T'.
Look for The Beatles, or The Clash, or The Doors in any alphabetical list or any major web site: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/465904/ref=br_ca_/102-7331812-2976149
I have added sorting tags to the three games in question (The Elder Scrolls III, The Longest Journey and The Moment of Silence) to make them appear under E, L and M, respectively. The first is also listed as "Morrowind" under Alternative Names. If games are hard to find in the big Category:Games list (as I predicted), people should either use the search box on the left, or we could stop excluding everything with two games from the series pages to make it more usefull.
Tels 18:46, 4 Jan 2005 (CET)
Cool. Thanks for listening to the suggestion, guys.
Tels: Can you tell me how to add these sorting tags? I've been thinking about adding The Sims 2 and a couple of others that I haven't quite got working yet.
Evil 15:55, 4 Jan 2005 (CET)
It's done by including [[Category:whichever|the place where the game needs to be]] for example for The Longest Journey; [[Category:Games|Longest Journey]] is included in the top part of the page for the longest journey. This will sort the game under the letter L but using the title from the article's URI (and thus the title of the page).
Cheers for the suggestion. =)

Proper use of impersonal style on wiki pages
I've noticed a lot of people refer to themselves on the wiki pages, some even without a signature. This is fine in discussion, but don't do it on a table of information. ie "I don't have patch XYZ so I can't test this". Just say "patch XYZ untested"
- MrPsycho 22:14, 16 Apr 2005 (CEST)
This is a great point, and it's something I make a point to correct when I notice. Perhaps a mention of this should be made on the 'Help:Adding a game' page, along with link to a page somewhere describing this style. I know this style has a proper name, I just can't think of it at the moment. :) (Also, I renamed this section from 'Misc' to make it clearer what we are talking about.)
- Pacula 23:01, 16 Apr 2005 (CEST)
I think it's called neutral third person, but impersonal style is all the same. I only mentioned it because it seems to be a growing problem on the wiki. It gets especially annoying after looking through a dozen games and finding "I can't figure this out" on half of them. The articles are looking better though!

Outdated release notes
The link to the "latest" release notes is outdated and I can't edit the main page to fix that. Either fix the links, remove the "block", or just make the link point to Release Notes. Tels 21:09, 11 May 2005 (CEST)
Testing With Wine
I have noticed that some games here have been tested with Wine, but the Wine version has been put in the list of tested Cedega versions. Would it be appropriate to add a Wine version field in the template, and a link to the game's Wine AppDB entry? After all, most users are interested in "playing the game", not "playing the game in Cedega". (And Wine works on Mac, Solaris and *BSD.)

New Cedega
Cedega 6.0 was released a while ago. Why version info are not updated? That lock isn't nice =(
