Category talk:Series
From Unofficial TransGaming Wiki
- Not sure how to delete the "C&C Series" Category - empyting it wasn't enough to get rid of it. I think only admins can do it :)
- "Dark Engine" could stay as a category, we can also add "quake engine", "source engine" etc and sort individual games into these categories. Is that something wothwhile to spent our time on it? There will probably not be a lot of games in one engine cat. since everybody seems to like to re-invent the wheel and write a new engine from scratch for each game :)

I don't think anything which would only have a single entry in this wiki should be a series. While there are multiple System Shock games, there is only the one that is relevent to Cedega - the original System Shock was a DOS game.

I did add it because I wanted to add the "other" System Shock game later - totally forgot that it is a DOS game. Heh, I rememeber playing it! :o)
OTOH, my idea was that even single games would be in the Series, so that if you look for a game, you start on the Category:Series page and then drill down. If single games aren't listed there, you would be required to use the Category:Games page and this is becomming quite big (the main reason behind the entire Series stuff :) Of course, for now we can leave single-games out until their second part is added to the Games list.

The idea of putting a link to -every- game somewhere on the series page, effectively replacing the main 'games' page, was the only reason that I didn't like the idea at first. I don't think the series categories should include ones for single games.

While I sort of agree that not putting single games into a category make sense, I strongly disgree about this wording:
"A game and a single sequel does NOT constitute a series."
In my opinion, two make a series (three make a trilogy :-) If we remove anything that has less than three games, we will be left with maybe 4 entries. Which is kinda silly.
Also, the main page get's simple too huge for my taste. So I think we should have in addition:
- A-Z entries (e.g. have 26 pages linking only the games starting with that letter)
- or a series page, which let's you "drill down".
Or maybe both. However, no matter what solution we use, all must list _all_ games to be usefull. (e.g. if we go the "A | B | C .. | Z" extra pages route, it would be silly to leave out X, because it contains only one game). Likewise, one page (not nec. the "series" page) should list single games so that you can follow each of these paths:
- go to main page, browse around, find game
- type game name into search box
- go to "series" page, find the series your game is in, click series, find game
- go to A-Z, find letter your game is in, click letter page, find game
Currently, one path #1 and #2 work, path #3 works only for a small sample, and path #4 is equal to path #1.
It is kinda annoying to go to the series page, only to not find your game series there. Likewise, waiting for the "games" page to load&render is also not fun for me.
Best wishes,
