Patches & Expansion Packs
[edit]
Civilization IV 1.74 Patch
- The Civilization IV 1.74 patch (available through Firaxis Games) installs and works fine through Cedega using the Civilization IV GDDB entry.
- It is best to do the full 1.0 -1.74 patch to ensure that everything works properly.
- After patching, however, you will not be able to run the game.
- To run Civilization IV 1.74 after patching, you will need to download d3dx9_31.dll and d3dx9_32.dll and copy them over to your .cedega/Civilization IV/c_drive/windows/system32 folder.

Expansion Packs
[edit]
Warlords
Civilization IV Expansion Packs run fine (I have tested the Warlords one). Just be sure to install it into the same game sandbox as Civilization IV (basically the same game folder). Also, use the Civilization IV GDDB settings. Tested on Cedega 6.0 --lsproc 03:18, 23 August 2007 (EDT)
[edit]
Warlords 2.13
- Currently it appears that the installer for Warlords 2.13 will not work. The current solution is to install in Windows and copy over the directory. See the following post for more information:
[edit]
Beyond the Sword
- As of Cedega 6.0.5 and Beyond the Sword 3.13, installing this expansion pack requires copying an existing installation from Windows over to your Linux drive. For more information on installing and playing Beyond the Sword through Cedega see the following posts at the official Cedega forums:
- Also, after playing Beyond the Sword for a while there may be graphical corruption errors. These can be minimized by editing the CivilizationIV.ini file (located in .cedega/Civilization IV/c_drive/My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/CivilizationIV.ini) and editing the following lines:
; Dont show the game background during movies - may speed up movie playing HideMovieBackground = 1
; Allows some memory savings *** ALT-TAB WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION *** MemSaver = 1
; Show movies using hi-color, not true-color (may be faster) Bink16Bit = 1
; Copy ever other scanline during movie playback (faster) BinkInterlace = 1

Issues
- During the installation, you must say 'YES' when asked about installing DirectX.
- Be sure to set the game's detail level down to medium (or lower) to prevent drastic slowdown issues, especially in the later stages of the game.
- The game refuses to start in a desktop.
- Some users have reported problems with terrain and faces disappearing using ATI's April drivers. Disabling pixel shaders in Cedega is reported to cure this.
- Fedora Core 5 users may have trouble with the CD protection see the forum.
- Periodic crashes in multiplayer.
- With patch 1.61 the periodic crashes might also occur in single player.
- Changing the screen resolution causes my game to crash (Mdt3k) - edit CivilizationIV.ini in TransGaming_Drive/My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/.
; Custom Screen Resolution, ex: 1200x1200 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0 ScreenHeight = 1024 ScreenWidth = 1280
- Version 5.2.2 causes the installer to hang just before it exits (Not seen anyone else report this Mdt3k) - 5.1.4 Seems to work fine.
- Graphical disruption occurs to city names. This does not appear to be caused by cedega version, but may be linked to Nvidia driver 1.0.8762.
- Civilization IV must be patched up to 1.61 before installing the Warlords expansion.
- Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) users must switch /bin/sh to use bash rather than dash. (sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash)
- Sometimes loading a game takes an extremely long amount of time. Switch to a console, "killall wine" and try again.
[edit]
Tips
- Setting "Use Pthreads" to "auto" (rather than "default") might significantly improve the performance of the later stage game.
- Setting the following two settings in your CivililizationIV.ini will make the game autosave each turn and load the game without showing the intro movies (reduces the damage of a crash).
AutoSaveInterval = 1 NoIntroMovie = 1
- If the game complains about the disk not being inserted when it is, reinsert the disk and try again.

Demo Installation
- N.B. You may have to manually click between the windows of each installer used here as they may leave you at stale black screens.
- N.B. Be sure to change <Civ4 demo dir> to your installation directory's name any time it is used here.
- Install the demo that is linked above and let it install DirectX.
- Download msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll and place them into:
~/.cedega/<Civ4 demo dir>/c_drive/windows/system32
- Download the Windows Installer (InstMsiA.exe) from here and install it into your Civ4 demo entry using Cedega's interface.
- Download MSXML (msxml3.msi) from here to your home directory and install it from a terminal with the following command:
cedega -install "<Civ4 demo folder>" "~/.cedega/<Civ4 demo dir>/c_drive/windows/system32/msiexec.exe" /i msxml3.msi
- While the Demo is fully playable the Tutorial does not work.
