Description
Dungeon Siege is a 3d Hack-n-slash RPG. Classes and experience points do not exist, skills are built up by direct use. The skill system itself is very simple (only four skills and 3 stats), putting the focus on combat not character building.
Troubleshooting
Dungeon Siege suffers performance loss with shadows enabled.
Turn shadows off and everything will run fine.
Sound is heard, but the game menu does not display.
This occurs when Dungeon Siege is running in 16-bit colour. You can fix this by passing bpp=32 to Dungeon Siege as a command line parameter or by altering dungeonsiege.ini (just change bpp = 16 to bpp = 32). 24-bit colour also seems to work, although this does not appear to be an officially supported configuration.
Loading and Saving times are unusually long.
Switching to a TTY ( CTRL + ALT + F1 and back during saving or loading appears to speed up the process. Also, load and save times have been reduced drastically by lowering the game resolution. It is unknown why these methods work, but it may be related to the kernel scheduler issue that makes game movies choppy.
Game crashes when mouse is moved in main menu
This is caused by driver issues. NVidia owners should update their drivers to the latest versions and ATi owners should try disabling ARB_VBO.
Game crashes after selecting the difficulty
Try adding bltonly=true to the command-line for Dungeon Siege.
Unresolved Issues
Game crashes when Multiplayer option is selected in the main menu.
Dungeon Siege requires DirectPlay 8 support, which is not currently supported in Cedega.
Additional notes
- I placed a few cleanup templates in here because I think the multiplayer crash might be fixed in newer versions of Cedega. Worth a try, but I do not own the game.
