Issues
- Game does not work seem to work with Cedega v4.2.1 & v4.2 (not on kernel v2.4 nor on v2.6).
- Tels The game patched to v1.35 works just fine, albeit it is sometimes much slower than under windows (leading to massive slowdowns in complex areas like inside The Opera, or the boss arenas) and it will hang upon loading the Babel level - preventing you from playing further.
- To get past "Babel", you can download a archive with a savegame unlocking all levels from DLH.net. The archive contains an .exe file, extract the savegames from it with
unrar x FFF-PK-AAL.exe. Don't ask me why they compressed the data twice with RAR :-P (Unfortunately the archive contains a savegame in a mode other than Nightmare, meaning you miss out features and levels) - Another way to get past babel is to just wait when it hangs, works fine for me, but it can take a while. It takes 15mins to load for me, just don't die too much, and you can get past babel without the above workaround.
- Tels Once you patched Painkiller to v1.3.5, you need Cedega v4.1 or newer to get the copy protection working.
- The demo #3 installs fine, but can only be run with Cedega v4.1.1. Even then, it doesn't display any graphics after starting a new game. The PAIN engine version displayed by this demo is v1.4.
- The demo #2 does not run with any Cedega version I have. Under v4.1.1 it does load, but then hangs. On other versions it simple crashes.
- Tels With Painkiller v1.6.1, the copy-protection is again broken, asking endlessly for the CD-ROM - regardless of Cedega version you use.
- To fix the movies on a v2.6 kernel, disable
Accelerated Interprocess Communicationand enableDecrease Wineserver Priority. Note: This does however, introduce a new issue: stuttering sound in the menus.
- TargetTo install PK++, get the SteamFish PK++ installer fromHere. Run the installer the same as a patch. This should add a "Check for PK++ updates" launcher to p2p. Run the updater. I got an error window pop up. Clicked ignore, and the updater still worked. Check in the Painkiller install directory, if you have a folder named
??check to make sure the files inside it are in their respective directories in the Painkiller install. Add the switch-lscripts PKPlus.pakto the comand line paramater in p2p. Launch the game, you should now see the PK++ menu. I was able to connect to an official CPL server and PK++ was authenticated.
