Talk:Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars

The name of this game is not right at all. The original version of the game was called "Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars", and it was later renamed to "Circle of Blood" for the US release. The current name helps clear the ambiguity, but it sort of grates on my nerves to read.

Simply moving the game page to the new name should fix that. I never owned nor knew about this game. Is it called "Broken Sword: Shadow of Templars" or "Broken Sword - Shadow of Templars"?

Sorry that would be my wrongdoing, I just looked at mobygames.com which listed the game as Circle of Blood. I'll move it.

This is kind of a special case - it's not many games that have such a dramatically different name in different places. I'm thinking that we might want to have a stub page under "Circle of Blood" explaining the issue and linking to the proper game. This page should be placed in the same categories as the main game page, that way if somebody is looking for it under the US name they will still be able to find it. For the record, my own personal copy of the game is the "Circle of Blood" version.

Just to chip in: Wiggles is another game of that type - click the link and watch the headline :)

Moved pages retain their former page as redirect. However, at least a note like ("Also know as: ...") at the "new name" would be at least a good idea.

Pacula's idea of putting both names into the "Games" categories would enable users to find them both there, but also make this already big category even bigger (Maybe next wikimedia software will have "A-B, C-F, G-Z" style selectors?).

Not sure with how many alternative names we end up, it was quite a bit popular to localize game names back when the 'net wasn't that big... Nowadays the hype for the original game pretty much forces smaller countries to also use that name to save ad costs. (Exceptions would be extremely unlucky names like using "Silver Mist" for a German game :)

Here's an idea - create an Alternate Names category, and add a note to the main game list that if the user can't locate a game, that they should check the alternate names list as well. This might be overkill though - there really aren't THAT many games with significantly different alternate titles. The only other one that I can think of off-hand is Another World/Out of this World.

Nah, I don't think that would be needed. Let's try not to use too many categories for each game.

I agree abouut having too many categories, especially if they contain only 3 entries. However, we can still have a Alternative Names page, and manually list the 3 games in it. Kick me if you want me to do this :o)
