Games
Could you add the games that don't have a wiki article yet to the database? =)
Omega 00:15, 7 Oct 2004 (CEST)
That was the reason why I started that list :) Unfortunately, it takes me quite a long time per game (research URLs, download demo, install it etc), so it will take some time to finish it. :o)
Tels 22:17, 7 Oct 2004 (CEST)
Myeah, but I'm mostly interested in what work and what doesn't, details can be added later. Though there are some good resources where to find patches, etc.
- http://mobygames.com/ - great database with urls to related game pages.
- http://3dgamers.com/ - good place to find demo's and patches
- http://gamershell.com/ - same as 3dgamers
- http://chtserv.dlh.net/cgi-bin/pat.cgi - Really good place to find patches for old games, etc.
Maybe i'll add a list of games too. =)
(Also made this page a bit more readable by using ---- after each post.)

Ah, I saw the four - but thought I mistyped four ~ *g
"Myeah, but I'm mostly interested in what work and what doesn't, details can be added later."
First, I care more for quality, than quantity. So I rather "complete" a page than just write a stub that nobody ever finds time to expand :) Second, remember my system crash? All data gone? Virgin HD etc? That means I have to install the games to test them, anyway, and while the installer does it's littl e dirty deads, I can as well download the demo, patch, research URLs etc. Trust me, I know how to operate google :)
Tels 23:28, 7 Oct 2004 (CEST)
Sure I'm also in for quality. But eventually i'd like to have an extensive database with many titles. Of course some games lack info. This wiki is fairly new. However I think that the person who is trying to run the game should also add info about it. Should an article lack it. For example. I refuse to add any useful info about Counter Strike simply because I loathe the game and therefor someone else will need to add it. =)
Cheers
Omega 23:45, 7 Oct 2004 (CEST)
I understand your goal :) In praxis, way more people will lookup data than add it, though (watch the current number of accounts vs. people editing stuff :) If you don't have the time to do things properly, you will need the time to do it twice, as the saying goes :)
In any event, just gimme a bit more time, okay? I can't do wonders on Thursdays.
Speaking of that, I would like to edit the "Add a game" help page and add the "Publisher" and "Developer" fields (minor), as well as change the default Cedega version to "please fill in" (major!), because I fear many people will simple copy the current entry "4.0, 4.01" even though they did not test the game on both versions, leading to a lot of false entries (I know it happened to me :) As I already said, wrong information is worse than missing one, and I strive for quality. Data that is corrupt or wrong isn't very usefull...:)
Btw, lost your email and the IRC hostname/port, too.

Erm.. sure, I wasn't like commanding you to do this or anything. =)

You're right. Changed the version number field. But why would you want the Publisher and Developer fields?

You're right about this too. :-)

Check my userinfo for the email adress. (It's in the side bar.) And see cedega-irc-channel for the irc channel that I hang out. (I know this one is different, but it's where all the "cool" cedega kids hand out. ;-)

Bugs with Point2Play
Moved that discussion to talk page.
Publisher/Developer?
Hmmm. Since when did we start adding those rows? =)
Omega 20:44, 24 Nov 2004 (CET)
I think I added them to all games that I started (since I added them to my first one for completeness. I usually copy&paste one of my game pages from earlier and then just fill in mindlessly all the fields). Lumping them into "URLs" seemed a bit well, too lumpy to me :)
Tels 21:46, 24 Nov 2004 (CET)
But the information is quite irrelevant to whether the game runs or not. That is why I'm bringing this up. What good is this information to gamers that try to play a game with Cedega? This isn't a game database like mobygames it's a database that is supposed to contain information about the compatibility with Cedega. Why include them?
Omega 11:41, 26 Nov 2004 (CET)
Good point. Hm. Maybe so that we:
- can bitch to the publisher/developer that they developed such a pile of steaming poo that it won't run under Linux? :o)
- make stats which publisher make "usually running under linux" games more often? (there are quite a few were none of their games work at all!)
I wouldn't go so far as to edit all the pages who miss that infomation (probably most) and add it, but I haven't made up my mind on whether that data is actually usefull or not. In fact, it might even be possible to pull this data automatically from 3D Gamers (I hope their db never vanishes, though).
Are you worried about the size of the DB? Or about the work to enter that information?
Tels 02:02, 27 Nov 2004 (CET)
About the usefulness regarding the point of this wiki. I have plenty of space. I just thing those information is useless.
Omega 13:23, 27 Nov 2004 (CET)
Ok, will no longer add them Tels 15:18, 28 Nov 2004 (CET)
Thank you. Make sure you got your copy of Thief installed, Thief2x will be released soonish. It's a very big FM project that has been worked on for years! =)

Testing demos
Could you make sure that you're not testing demos without also testing the full game? There are a LOT of cases where a demo will work and the full game won't, and vice versa, and it's a little dishonest to list a game as working/non-working when only the demo has been tried. - Pacula 14:55, 3 Dec 2004 (CET)
I test many demos, but I own very little games (usually the demo doesn't work, so I do not buy the game). However, _whenever_ I test a demo, I make sure that I explicitely say in the info that I only tested the demo and _not_ the game. E.g. I set the "game works" to "unknown" etc. Usualy I also don't set the categories, but I might have forgotten that. If you notice anything odd, feel free to correct anything.
If you want me to not test demos without games, I can just stop working here althogether, because there are no more games for me to test then :-(
Tels 00:39, 4 Dec 2004 (CET)
The only concern I have is with the working/partially/not-working categories - those should be reserved for the full games. If you test a demo out but not the full game, don't put it in any of those.
- Pacula 00:52, 4 Dec 2004 (CET)
You said you could help me out...
You said you could help me out with adding real names for some of my games... Feel free to do so.... I haven't got the time nor patience to do somyself until i get that adsl line i've been waiting for for a week... jzono1 19:59, 12 Jan 2005 (CET)
re: Wiki suggestions
Tels,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll work on improving the structure and substance of the articles. This whole wiki syntax throws me for a bit of a loop.

Creating 'game series' categories
Just a friendly reminder to go easy with the 'series' categories - no point making them unless there are a fair number of games from the series in the wiki. There was a discussion on the topic earlier, and we decided to only use a series category when it was clearly useful to the wiki itself. - Pacula 09:49, 23 Oct 2005 (EDT)
I just went to the Special:Categories page and noticed some categories did not have any content itself, so I put them into the series (thereby creating the category page content itself). My fault for not checking whether these should even exist. Sorry.
